What They Ate
Quotes
"Oh, my God. Wow... That is some of the best lamb I've really enjoyed... It's tender. That is fantastic"
"(Beef Steak) The flavour of that with that onion as well... It's got, again, it's a slight spicing. It's nothing that's like really overpowering. It's just a really, really nice subtle spice of seasoning coming through."
"(Date Cake) It's like a soft, spongy Christmas pudding... Without all the lumpy bits... You can really taste the dates... It tastes very similar to sometimes when you go and get a stick of toffee pudding"
"I'm really, really impressed... The first try of Somali Food, and I've got to tell you, not my last."
Our Reflection
Sabeeb transforms Somali food skeptics through slow-cooked lamb shoulder achieving best-lamb-in-very-long-time status and signature banana custom creating weirdest-thing-ever palate-cleansing revelation. Gary's initial banana resistance ("not feeling the bananas") converting to appreciation after experiencing fruity freshness starting-afresh effect between spiced bites. Lamb shoulder delivering superstar-of-show tender awesomeness falling off bone effortlessly. Beef steak surprising with thin cuts avoiding expected dryness through subtle spicing and onions. Rice absolutely fantastic/gorgeous, potatoes absolutely banging with spiced slight sweetness. Complimentary vegetable soup light broth-style with citrus lemon turmeric, extreme-spice raw chili sauce providing fire/sinuses-clearing intensity. Date cake achieving soft-spongy-Christmas-pudding-without-lumpy-bits comparison, sticky-toffee-pudding similarity, dirty-little-treat status. £45 sharing platter generous (impossible solo demolition), £6 date cake bargain. Service fantastic (Divya beautiful smile), 5-star hygiene rating. Initial comfort-zone concerns dissolving into gutted-living-far-away regret and guaranteed-return promises. Best-in-UK claim not surprising post-meal. Cultural adventurousness lesson learned through top-marks experience.
