About

Delmonico's is widely regarded as the oldest fine dining restaurant in America, established around 1837 in the Financial District of Manhattan. Its influence on American dining culture is extraordinary. The restaurant is credited with inventing the Delmonico steak, Baked Alaska, Eggs Benedict, and the wedge salad, and it was the first restaurant in America to offer private dining rooms, allow women to dine unaccompanied, and use white tablecloths. The restaurant nearly closed permanently during the pandemic following a dispute with its landlord, but was saved and has since reopened to strong reviews. Today it is considered one of the best steakhouses in New York not only for its history but for the quality of the food itself. The current menu features both the signature wet aged boneless Delmonico ribeye and a dry aged bone in ribeye, as well as classic steakhouse accompaniments and the legendary Baked Alaska dessert.

The Visit

The visit to Delmonico's was marked by a sense of history and high expectations. The reviewer praised the atmosphere, describing it as incredible and iconic, and found the food to be excellent overall. While the bone-in dry aged ribeye was expensive, the experience was deemed worth it for the historical significance. Delmonico's stands out as a top contender among New York's steakhouses, offering both great food and a memorable setting.
